Chronixx acoustic - Chronixx, Koffee, Zincfence excellent at Skyline Levels

"This is reggae music in one of the most basic kind of way." That's how Grammy-nominated artiste Chronixx described the live acoustic session which featured himself and his Zincfence Redemption band at Skyline Levels over the weekend. There was, however, nothing basic about the vibe, the energy or the quality of performance that guests were treated to.

There was very little promotion behind the acoustic session, but it was enough to draw a crowd that filled the venue to capacity. DJ Bambino was at the turntables and, with a few reggae selections and dancehall hits from the '90s, he set the mood for the evening's main act. Chronixx didn't grace the stage until minutes after 11 p.m. when he shared the stage with Teflon and instrumentalist Andre France. The trio, showing off their dubbing skills, captivated the audience. There were no words, but none were needed as the rhythm swept patrons off their feet and readied them for the night's main act.

MUSICAL TREAT

Chronixx didn't officially begin his vocals until minutes to midnight and, although it was a long wait for patrons who had turned out from as early as 8 p.m., they didn't mind as they knew once the man of the moment touched the microphone, they were in for a musical treat. And they were not disappointed. Clad in an African-inspired sweatshirt over a mesh undershirt with Clarks on his feet, Chronixx and his band took the audience on an acoustic journey many will not soon forget. Although the songs performed were tracks a large number of the patrons have heard before, many were hearing them acoustically for the first time, and the atmosphere was fresh and exhilarating.

Chronixx thrilled with renditions of Ain't No Giving In, They Don't Know, Smile Jamaica, Queen Majesty, I Can, Black is Beautiful and Skankin' Sweet. With every strum of the guitar and beat of the drum, the sweet sounds from Chronixx and the Zincfence Redemption band carried the audience deeper into musical bliss. Chronixx shared the stage with fast-rising reggae artiste Koffee, who got a huge 'forward' with a performance of her track Raggamuffin.

It seemed the night was going too well for patrons to want to go home, because at minutes to 2 a.m. the show was still in full swing.
