Island Trinketz, Cedella Marley create jewellery to support Reggae Girlz
Raveen Dadlani, founder and managing director of local jewellery company Island Trinketz, said he had no hesitation when he was asked to work alongside Cedella Marley on a special project.
The project would see Dadlani and Marley coming together to create a special collection to commemorate the Reggae Girlz's historic World Cup qualification.
The collection, dubbed Strike Hard, will comprise charm bracelets and bangles inspired by Jamaica and the Reggae Girlz. Pointing out that many talented Jamaicans are often kept from their goals because of a lack of financial support, Dadlani said partnering with Marley was an easy decision as he wanted to play his part in ensuring the Reggae Girlz realise their dreams.
"Jamaicans have a lot of talent, but a lot of our people are held back because of funding. Support most times is not enough, and we do not want our Reggae Girlz to be hindered by a lack of financial support. They are very talented, and they can go far, so we, as a people, must do everything we can to ensure they get as far as possible," he said. "We were overwhelmed about being a part of this. Just the fact that the Reggae Girlz did so well and we can do something to assist them on their historic journey makes us feel good."
Dadlani revealed that the designs for the charm will represent the Jamaican culture. He explained that with Marley being a designer, the collection came together perfectly, creating something truly spectacular. "Between both of us I think we've come up with some really great pieces. Cedella is a very creative person, so having another creative mind to bounce ideas off of was an awesome experience. When you look at the pieces, you will see Jamaica represented. You will also be reminded based on the different charms that you are supporting a historic women's football team," he said, explaining that the benefit to purchasing a piece from the collection goes both ways. "Not only will the Reggae Girlz be getting financial support, but buyers will also gain a special piece of a special edition to add to their personal collections."
In a release sent to The Gleaner, Marley urged Jamaicans to support the Reggae girlz through this initiative. "The Jamaica Reggae Girlz are more than a football team, they are a national team representing Jamaica in the most important soccer competition in the world. They deserve our support as a nation," she said.
