A cup of Koffee for Christmas - Matthew 25 Boys' Home treated by rising reggae star
Eighteen-year-old reggae singer Koffee only has three songs in her catalogue. Nevertheless, the rising star proves that all it takes is a few good songs and some gratitude. For the season, she is back in Jamaica - taking over stages both large and small. For the past few weeks, Koffee spent time giving back by performing her few songs to very excited and appreciative fans.
Last Thursday, she made a surprise appearance at the Matthew 25 Boys' Home, at their annual Christmas treat. "This is my third small event since this year, and in a short period of time - I did one earlier this week, and one last week. I was in the UK just before that - so from I land I've just been at it," Koffee told The Gleaner.
Organised by The Gleaner's sales and marketing team, Matthew 25 Boys enjoyed a Jamaican Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. "This treat started about 10 or so years ago. We try and give each boy a gift and provide them with some lunch. We look at it as giving back to the home, and society at large," sales representative Alves Deans said. To spice this up this year, they added entertainment to the itinerary.
Original Koffee
After having lunch and the exchanging of gifts, the young singer took to the microphone with some cheerful seasonal tunes. After announcing, "Blessings. This is the Original Koffee," she began, with calm confidence. Ragamuffin, the first song she performed, was greeted with whoops and cheers from the room. The reaction was the same, if not more, after she sang Burning and her newest single - Toast.
Koffee has been spending time abroad, as she was recently signed to Columbia Records UK. "I actually signed with Columbia way up in 2018 - a long time before it was actually announced," she revealed.
Since signing to the label, she describes the progression of her career as smooth. She said, "We've just been working on music, planning and stuff. Even Toast that was recently released - we'd been working on the planning of promotion. Everything you're seeing now was being planned all along."
Her other home performance was Live From Kingston on Saturday, December 22. "There are quite a few songs that I haven't released yet that I will be performing. And there's an EP that Toast came off of - with four other songs. You can expect that in February 2019."
