From today onwards, the entertainment scene will be buzzing with activity as the festive season kicks into high gear. It will be non-stop partying straight into the weekend as work pauses for fun and frolic. But, amid the merriment, persons must be mindful of the dangers lurking in the shadows that could quickly turn the season of joy into one of sadness. Now, with that said, here are a list of tips for partygoers to help them keep safe this holiday season. We want to ensure all of you make it into 2020 unhurt and happy. Merry Christmas!

1. We have to start the list with perhaps the most important advice this season. With Christmas a time of indulging, we want people to remember to drink responsibly. While you are out having fun with family and friends, remember not to overindulge.

2. Keep an eye on your drinks and never leave them unattended. Even soft drinks could get spiked.

3. Make sure you have something to eat before a night out and drink water regularly. It may sound absurd but you’d be surprised how many people go out partying on an empty stomach.

4. Assign yourself a designated driver, in case you have a little too much to drink. This designated driver is responsible for your safe transportation and, therefore, should not indulge in alcohol consumption.

5. Travel in groups. Try not to go to events on your own and do not accept rides from strangers.

6. Stash some cash in case you lose your purse or wallet.

7. Do not keep car keys and house keys on the same ring. Also ensure that they are easily accessible to minimise the time it takes to enter your vehicle and home, in the event you are followed.

8. Carefully manage your social media posts. You might be tempted to broadcast to the world, your every move (especially if you have a large following) but try your best to resist that urge.

9. Avoid wearing jewellery, particularly gold, especially when walking in areas with high pedestrian traffic.

10. Keep car windows wound up at all times, especially if you are on the phone at a traffic stop. You are an easy target when the light is on red.
