Five Questions with Sizzla

In this weeks edition of 5 Questions With, we delve deeper into the life of a man who has contributed immensely to the development of the local music industry. He was born Miguel Collins but he is better known to Jamaica and the wider world as Sizzla Kalonji. A Grammy nominee, a consummate performer and the ultimate professional, Sizzla has earned himself a musical reputation unmatched by very few. With more than 70 albums under his belt, the artiste has earned the respect of several world-renowned artistes and producers, including the likes of Bajan pop star Rihanna and We The Best music mogul, DJ Khaled.

Still riding high off his performance at the recently concluded virtual staging of Reggae Sumfest, we get up close and personal with Sizzla, picking his brain about what he would have been doing outside of music, and more.

 

What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about Sizzla?

 

Sizzla: That he is a humble person.

 

Jamaica will be celebrating 58 years of independence next week. What is your biggest wish for the country?

 

Sizzla: That the Government would step away from the wicked colonial slave system and start teaching black culture in the schools, homes and media, therefore adjusting the nation to its rightful royal indigenous sovereign wealth position as the true Hebrew Israelite in the Bible and change from the English language to the ancient Hebrew language they took away from us in slavery.

 

Where is your favourite chill spot on the island?

 

Sizzla: Judgement Yard at the tabernacle of the most high, Jah Rastafari.

 

What keeps you dedicated to the August Town community?

 

Sizzla: The beautiful people and its geographical position with the luscious vegetation and natural spring water.

 

If Sizzla was not an artiste, what profession would he have pursued?

 

Sizzla: Auto mechanic, mechanical engineering (ergonomics) and architecture.
