Pearnel Charles Sr and family roll with Deiwght Peters
Recently retired politician, Pearnel Charles Sr, and his accomplished children following in his footsteps to engage in public service, will sit for an exclusive interview with Deiwght Peters this Sunday, on Television Jamaica (TVJ).
“I was impressed with the historic family achievement of two kids of a living political legend sitting in parliament together,” Peters shares with The Gleaner. “However, I wanted to tell the story from a different perspective (naming it the Charles political dynasty), and so I reached out, and they were happy with the idea.”
The 83-year-old senior Charles, whose five-decade long career in representational politics culminated this year with his retirement as speaker of the House of Representatives, will be joined by his children, Senator Pearnel Charles Jr, who serves as the minister of housing, urban renewal, environment and climate change; dentist Dr Michelle Charles, member of parliament for St Thomas Eastern, and public health consultant, Dr Patrece Charles-Freeman.
“Having Pearnel Charles Sr, truly one of Jamaica’s most astute political luminaries, and his three children agree for a joint appearance on my show was a gift that offered amazing insights into the family dynamics of politics,” Peters told The Gleaner, noting that the senior Charles has contributed much to Jamaica.
“Pearnel has given much, by way of service, to nation-building, and his children Pearnel Jr, Michelle and Patrece have been inspired to take up the mantle, and are continuing the tradition, and this is exceptional fodder for enlightening discussion, sure to educate and entertain viewers of the show,” he said.
Peters describes the interview as being “rich with sound bites and exciting political tales”.
Also on Sunday’s guest list is Saint International model Brit Knight. Discovered at her alma mater St Jago High, she is now a final-year student at The University of the West Indies, Mona campus, pursuing a double major in marketing and tourism management. Knight has appeared on the pages of Vogue, shot a global advertising campaign for superstar Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty cosmetics line, and rocked the runways for Giorgio Armani, Jil Sander and Nina Ricci. She talks to her mentor and model-agent, Peters, about juggling tertiary studies and a globe-trotting modelling career where she is sometimes doing homework backstage in Milan and Paris.
Rolling with Deiwght Peters - From Jamaica to the World airs exclusively on TVJ on Sundays at 4:00 p.m., and repeats on Wednesdays at 1:05 p.m.
