Pamoja by Etana, Positive Vibration by Gramps Morgan, Live N Livin by Sean Paul, Royal by Jesse Royal, Beauty in the Silence by Soja, and 10 by Spice have been nominated in the category of Best Reggae Album for the 64th Grammy Awards.

The announcement was made a short ago by Carly Pearce during a live stream.

This is the first nomination for Spice and Jesse Royal; the third for Soja; the ninth nomination for Sean Paul, who won the Best Reggae Album Grammy in 2003 for Dutty Rock; and the second for Etana and Gramps Morgan. Morgan won the award in 2015 for Strictly Roots.

Toots and the Maytals took home last year's Best Reggae Album Grammy for Got to Be Tough. It is the last album released by the reggae band before the death of frontman Frederick 'Toots' Hibbert.

MAJOR NOM

Major Lazer scored a nomination in the Best Dance/Electronic Album category for Music is the Weapon (Reloaded). They go up against Black Coffee for Subconsciously; Illenium, Fallen Embers; Marshmello, Shockwave; Sylvan Esso, Free Love; and Ten City, Judgement.

The Recording Academy has made sweeping changes to its selection and voting processes.

The academy earlier this year ditched anonymous selection committees and now allows its more than 11,000 voters to choose nominees in certain categories, with the full membership eligible to weigh in on top honours like Album and Song of the Year.

The Grammy Awards will be handed out on January 31 in Los Angeles. Last year's ceremony was held under strict pandemic-control conditions. While few details about next year's ceremony have been released, the academy has committed to staging the show and using an inclusion rider, which is meant to increase diversity among those working on the ceremony at all levels.
