Monday could be decision day for the entertainment sector.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness, during a virtual press briefing last Tuesday, announced that Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Desmond McKenzie is devising a plan for the reopening of the entertainment sector, which has been closed for close to two years.

McKenzie, in responding to questions from journalists this afternoon, steered clear of giving any specifics on the matter. He stressed that he needed to take the proposed measures to the Cabinet on Monday for approval.

“Once I take that to Cabinet on Monday, I will say accordingly, but I am not prepared to say because I have not yet taken it to Cabinet and it is for the Cabinet to take a decision,” McKenzie said.

When reminded that the prime minister had said that it was his call, McKenzie agreed and further explained.

“It is my call because I am a part of the Cabinet. The prime minister did say that the minister of local government will take it to the Cabinet and he said it more than once.”

McKenzie noted that the Government has granted approval for sporting events across the board, provided that only vaccinated persons attend.

“We are now turning our attention to the entertainment sector and we have to be careful… diligent. I want to remind the country that we are not out of COVID, so we have to do everything accordingly in terms of how we operate. If other decisions are going to be made, it will be discussed,” he said.
