Canadian Women’s Club of Jamaica hosts Spring Into Fashion

International fashion supermodel Bath-Sheba McMahon is set to rock the Jamaican runway on Sunday, April 30, when the Canadian Women’s Club of Jamaica (CWC) hosts the 10th Spring Into Fashion fundraising event under the patronage of Honorary President and Canadian High Commissioner to Jamaica Emina Tudakovic. Fashion coordiantor and compere Joan McDonald, former Miss Jamaica World, will lead the proceedings.
Scheduled to take place in the Rocksteady Ballroom at the AC Hotel located at Lady Musgrave Road in St Andrew, several other top Jamaican celebrity models and a few surprise personality guest models, as well as overseas-based designers will feature in what promises to showcase an array of couture talent assembled for the event.
Born in New York City, Bath-Sheba has Jamaican connections as she is the granddaughter of iconic Jamaican artist and cultural figure, Mallica ‘Kapo’ Reynolds. Her initial calling was the sport of basketball, having excelled at the US collegiate level before going on to play professionally in Europe.
In a brief interview with The Sunday Gleaner, Bath-Sheba stated, “I am so elated to be returning to my home in Jamaica especially for the CWC Fashion Extravaganza. It will be my first time modelling in Jamaica. I am honoured to be helping to raise awareness and funds for use to uplift children and young mothers. Excited also to visit the young ladies at the centre.I am looking forward also to seeing my Mom’s artwork being highlighted and greeting the extended Kapo family keeping his legacy alive.”
Her mother, Christine Reynolds, an artist in her own right, encouraged her to consider runway modelling after her return to New York from playing basketball abroad. This second career quickly grew, with Bath-Sheba making her runway debut at the renowned New York Fashion Week. Shortly thereafter, she took her talents to Los Angeles, California where she has been published in over 17 magazines grabbing cover spots for Off Town & Gmaro. and working with well-known brands, such as Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Nike. Along the way she had worked with a raft of celebrity designers and had also starred in music videos with such artists as P Diddy, J Cole, Doja Cat, Wiz Khalifa and many more. Her acting credits also include posing as stand-in for Candace Parker and background roles on the Netflix show, Winning Time, which documents the great Los Angeles Lakers basketball teams of the ‘80s.
A special feature will be a silent auction of a piece of art titled, Maternal Bond, gifted to the Canadian Women’s Club of Jamaica by Christine (Bath-Sheba’s mom) and will be available for viewing at the AC Hotel from April 24 until the day of the event.
Adding to the glamour of the evening’s offering will be designs by award-winning American-based Jamaican designer, Hope Blake Wade of Hope Wade Designs, who has styled Grammy winners and other celebrities.
Outreach
The CWC brings together Canadian women living in Jamaica and non-Canadians endeared to the group’s mission. It has been actively improving living conditions for thousands of Jamaicans over the past 60 years.
“We are ecstatic that we are able to bring back Spring Into Fashion, for the patrons who have been clamouring for its return, but also to enable us to continue our mission of supporting the underserved in our society,” said Katherine Villeneuve, president of CWC.
Each year, the group undertakes to fund several projects that help to meet the pressing needs of local families and communities, including children, young women-a- risk, the elderly, and those who are experiencing health challenges. In addition to the Spring Into Fashion event, the organisation also stages a harvest fair annually in October.
