The staging of big reggae festivals and concerts with sought-after artistes at huge outdoor and indoor venues is again part of normal life for promoters globally, as the music again takes centrestage following the lockdown triggered by the pandemic.

Reggae fans within and outside of the Tri-State area are in for a special treat, with a trio of shows scheduled for Connecticut, New Jersey and Long Island on the weekend of Friday, August 11 to Sunday, August 13, featuring some of the biggest names in the genre, who continue to fly Jamaica’s flag high globally.

Organisers of the Singers in Action series of concerts — say that this set of dream shows has long been in the making.

“We know that fans will definitely love this line-up of amazing artistes on the same stage for an event that will give each enough time to sing the songs that have inspired and motivated their fans throughout the years,” said veteran promoter, George Crooks, the organiser of Jammins Reggae Fest.

Next Friday, August 11, Jammins Events kicks off the Singers in Action Pt.10 series with a return to College Street Music Hall in New Haven, Connecticut. This showcase is headlined by Beres Hammond, the singer who has earned the title ‘The Chairman of the Board’, and who started 2023 on a mega high with a memorable performance at the sold-out Intimate concert in St Ann, Jamaica and has not missed a beat since; the Gangalee, Louie Culture, a veteran with timeless lyrics and who always delivers; and one of the most successful Digicel Rising Stars alums, Romain Virgo, who is coming off a scintillating Reggae Sumfest performance.

Then, on Saturday, August 12, the second leg of the Jammins Reggae Fest will unfold. Crooks noted that the Singers in Action Pt.10 series has become a staple summer event at NJPAC in Newark, New Jersey, and shared that “the heavyweight artistes are all eager to connect with their fans and sing all of their favourite songs”.

The weekend concert series comes to a climax on Sunday, August 13 with a showcase that will throw an additional young legend into the mix.

“Reggae lovers will agree that it will indeed be a ‘Big Deal’,” Crooks said, as he revealed that the Catholic Health Outdoor Amphitheater in Farmingville in Long Island, New York, will play host to, not three, but four superb reggae and lover’s rock artistes — Beres Hammond, Louie Culture, Romain Virgo and Christopher Martin.
