‘Celebration time: The Skatalites at 60’ unfolds at F&B Restaurant
Six decades after the Skatalites’ formation, their iconic music continues to generate international interest, inspire musicians, and engage dancers.
Known for its unique blend of Jamaican music, The Skatalites’ brass and reed section – Don Drummond, Tommy McCook, Roland Alphonso, Lester Sterling and Dizzy Johnny Moore – resonate with horn players globally interested in Jamaican music.
Lloyd Knibb, Lloyd Brevet, Jackie Mittoo, and Jah Jerry Hines approach legendary status as their rhythmic innovation remains essential in modern ska music globally. Classics such as Guns of Navarone, Man in the Street, Occupation, Freedom Sound and Tear Up are among the perennial classics of this illustrious group of musicians.
Celebration Time – Skatalites at 60 commemorate this milestone with a performance by SKAnDALL at Herbie Miller’s Friday Night Jazz at the F&B Restaurant, Downtown Kingston.
SKAnDALL performs on Friday, May 24 from 7 to 8 p.m. and 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
