No Reggae Queen for Leroy Sibbles August 31 concert
Marcia Griffiths’ first show in Jamaica for 2024 will be her own 60th anniversary concert
Queen of Reggae Marcia Griffiths is congratulating veteran singer, Leroy Sibbles, on his 60 years in the music business and his upcoming crowning as King of Reggae Basslines at a concert set for August 31.
Although she is being advertised to perform at the event, at Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew, Griffiths, who is this year celebrating her diamond anniversary in music and entertainment, will, unfortunately, not be a part of the line-up.
“I have a lot of respect for Leroy and his sterling contributions to the music. We are both celebrating 60 years and that is a great achievement. I really wanted to be a part of his show, but I know that with my concert happening in November I could not be advertised as a performer on his concert. I have not done any shows in Jamaica this year because of the level of commitment to making my own show extra special,” Griffiths told The Gleaner.
“I have been saying since the start of the year that the first show I will be doing in Jamaica will be my 60th anniversary concert and that still stands. I owe that to my fans,” added Griffiths.
The Live On singer shared that she has been in dialogue with the promoters of the August 31 concert, however, the behind-the-scenes communication and discussions have unfortunately not been as productive as they could have been.
“But, it’s show business and sometimes the enthusiasm from one party takes over and the real message gets clouded,” Griffiths explained to the The Gleaner.
Additionally, the Reggae Queen explained that with the Caribbean Music Awards in New York on August 29, where will be honoured and a concert on September 1 – as well as scheduled commitments on August 30 for the September 1 concert – there would be no window for return travel to Jamaica and back to New York for her engagements.
Sixty years after she first emerged on the music scene, Marcia Griffiths continues to be at the forefront of the success of the reggae genre.
