Opposition Leader calls on Governor-General
Newly appointed Leader of the Opposition Edward Seaga, accompanied by his wife, called on the Governor-General, the Most Hon Florizel Glasspole, and the Most Hon Mrs Glasspole at King’s House yesterday morning.
The governor-general and Mrs Glasspole warmly congratulated Seaga on his appointment. This was Seaga’s first official engagement since his election to the leadership of the Jamaica Labour Party.
After a chat in the drawing room of King’s House, the governor-general and the Most Hon Mrs Glasspole took Mr and Mrs Seaga on a tour of the grounds. The governor-general personally conducted the visit to a new greenhouse he has installed, and pointed out shrubs, bushes, trees and flowers he has been responsible for planting out in the gardens surrounding the house.
Seaga, who is also a keen gardener, particularly admired the display of crotons, and both the leader of the Opposition and his wife took a lively interest in the improvements to the gardens made by the governor-general.
