Dynamic Lifestyle | Who is Kurt Gordon?

Published:Friday | November 25, 2016 | 12:00 AM

If there were ever an individual that was singularly driven to excellence by dedication and commitment, it would be Kurt Gordon. Although forcefully built like a truck - hence his alias 'Truk', which, by the way, is also his name spelt backwards - the guy is positively an introvert who you would ordinarily mistake in a room full of persons for an altar boy. If for some reason, that room was transformed into a gym or exercise floor, his personality and general demeanor would be transformed into a fitness demon.

The Dynamic Lifestyle clients got to meet my friend and brother Kurt last week, while he was vacationing in Jamaica as he worked out with us at the Training Studio for eight days.

So who really is Kurt Gordon?

Kurt is an extremely passionate person when it comes to health and fitness. He has a mission to motivate and encourage individuals towards a more positive, healthy, active lifestyle by raising awareness on the importance of physical health.

He has a bachelor of arts in computer science and a natural talent for graphic design. Kurt has worked in the world of graphics for more than six years. However, the love for fitness was a pull for him and it allowed him to attain a certificate from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. Upon attaining this certification, he began personal training as a hobby, gaining the encouragement and respect from his clients and colleagues.

At the start of 2016, he moved to Canada and pursued his passion for fitness on a whole new level by attaining a second personal training certification from Canada Fitness Professionals (CanFitPro).

Kurt's goal is to improve his clients' range of motion, practical strength, and cardiovascular fitness. If you are a novice, he hopes to prepare you for an upward swing towards your best fitness level. If you are experienced, he hopes to help you push past your boundaries. He believes that it is our will that dictates our abilities.

He wants to constantly refine your workouts together and will rely on your feedback to make your experience the best it can be.

What is vacation like for a fitness trainer?

Taking a break from my busy schedule of anything that does not involve fitness, such as my graphic design lifestyle. Visiting different countries and exploring there cultures but at the same time my fitness lifestyle remains the same. Fitness for me is not an obstacle for me; it is not something to overcome it is my lifestyle. Whether I am on vacation, travelling, leisure time etc. Fitness is in my daily routine it is not a chore for me it is just in my blood, like a DNA.

Does your diet change when on vacation?

No it doesn't change because I am not really ever on a diet it is a lifestyle. Breakfast is three boiled egg whites and two whole eggs, toast, no butter, with added greens - which is callaloo. Snack in between includes berries: blackberry, strawberry, raspberries, any berry. Lunch is chicken breast salad, no dressing, no croutons. Snack again on almonds and cashews. Dinnertime - burrito bowl (rice, vegetables, and meat).

When you visited the Dynamic Lifestyle fitness centre what was it like?

It was a different level of energy the clients training were cooperative, they pushed through the entire circuit. They gave more than 100% they were energetic and we made it fun. We did a lot of team building and the experience was on to remember.

If you could do anything differently while on vacation, what would it be and why?

I would try to incorporate more sleep and relaxation maybe go to a resort and enjoy the island beach. Please remember as much as I love fitness, I love to rest, which is very important in living a healthy lifestyle.

Kurt's top 5 benefits for doing bootcamp sessons

My top 5 benefits of doing bootcamp sessions.

1. Importance of Movements

Human bodies are designed to move, not to sit slumped over a computer all day. The less you move, the less blood sugar your body uses. Functional training focuses on training movement patterns rather than isolating individual muscles. I believe that we need get up and take part in some form of physical activity 4-7 times a week. Most people who have 9-5s are around a desk majority of the time at work and I consider that counterproductive.

2. Fat Burning

Bootcamp training provides fantastic fat-burning workouts, by using full-body exercises that improve strength, endurance, and boost metabolism, not wasting a minute of your session.

3. Muscle Tone and Core Strength

Bootcamp training develops strong, lean bodies and every exercise involves core activation, teaching the core to stabilise the spine against external force, throughout an array of differing movement patterns and body positions.

4. Stability

Every session includes flexibility, mobility, core stability, balance, and strength-training principles, to keep your body constantly challenged in all areas of a strong, healthy, and vibrant body.

5. Body Composition

With proper dieting and functional training, you will see a change in your body composition. Most people engage in these activities for this same particular reason. Bootcamp sessions will definitely, if you give your maximum effort, get you the results and make you stronger while doing it. Everybody likes a six pack!

That's it for this week! Hope you can join me for a killer Burn 90 or Spinning session at the new Dynamic Lifestyle Training Studio, 4 Hillcrest Avenue, Kingston 6.
