Make-up must-haves for newbies

Changing up your look for 2017 does not have to be a hassle, especially when it comes to make-up.

Let us not verge into the realm of contouring, blending, and facial landscaping. For most women, a little goes a long way. Especially if you are new to make-up, don't be intimidated by social media videos. Here are the basic must-haves that will keep you looking fresh:

1. PRIMER

After your apply your moisturiser, the next thing you should put on your face is a primer. There is a primer geared at every skin type because it is there to protect your pores.

2. BB CREAM

Some may not be interested in using a foundation, and sometimes, finding the correct shade can be overwhelming. So keep it simple until you are comfortable. It will be a great moisturiser as well as provide basic coverage.

3. FOUNDATION

This is a must-have. If you have already tried the BB cream or you are looking for something with more coverage, this is the way to go. Finding your right shade may seem tedious, but if you go to the cosmetic counter, they will be able to assist you in selecting your correct shade.

4. MASCARA

This is a must for every woman. It opens up your eyes and elongates your lashes. If nothing else, do not leave the house without mascara. It will eventually be your best friend.

5. TINTED LIP BALM OR GLOSS

Not everyone is ready to plunge into deep, bright, bold lip colours. For some, it might be terrifying to try a bold colour. A tinted lip balm does the trick. Tinted lip glosses also work, but sometimes the colour does not really translate. With the balm, you always see a hint of colour, so it is better to recognise what undertones best suit your skin tone. So when you decide to take a bold plunge, try a brown instead of a pink. This will help you to warm up to trying lipsticks.

6. RED LIPSTICK

If you are ready to go bold, red never fails. Note that no one shade of red fits all. Go to a cosmetics store that allows you to test the colours. Start from deep and work your way up. When you find the red that works perfectly, never let it go. Red never goes out of style.

8. SPOOLIE

The artistry of perfectly arched brows is not something we are all versed in. However, you can keep them looking groomed by brushing your brows into place with a spoolie - your own brow brush.
