Women's Favourite Art with Kimberly Patterson
Art as we know, comes in many forms - sculptures, paintings, and the list goes on.
For us, women, our favourite art work takes the shape of a fabulous make-up glow. The eyebrows, contours, cheeks, lips, and everything else must be perfect. Because, let's face it, who doesn't like changing the shape of their face without having to commit to invasive surgery.
Yes, some of us know how to get it right, but for those of us who don't, we can rely on gifted and creative make-up artists such as the remarkable Kimberly Patterson.
But who is Kimberly? Patterson is a proud graduate of the University of the West Indies, graduating in 2009 with a bachelor of science degree in psychology, and a minor in human resource.
UNEXPECTED TURN
However, her life took an unexpected turn when, after university, she entered the film industry. She worked as an assistant to freelance film producer, Justine Henzel, while exploring her make-up artistry in her leisure time. Soon after, she realised that her gift in this department just had to be shared. "While working, I received a number of phone calls requesting carnival make-up. They all knew that I wasn't a make-up artist, neither did I have a collection of make-up, but they were willing to take their own products and pay for my services. And with the encouragement of my sister and my boss, I took advantage of that opportunity to invest into make-up artistry," she told Flair.
It is guaranteed that life will be easier if you allow your passion and make it your pay cheque. With a passion for experiencing life to its fullest through travelling, meeting people and trying new things, Patterson believes makeup unquestionably falls in line with her desires. She says it is for this reason that she has fallen deeply in love with the art. "What I love the most about the art, is the level of friendship I get to build with each client. I respect the fact that they are open enough to allow me in their personal space with the utmost trust that I will deliver with my God-given talent," she explained.
Inspired by other celebrity make-up artists such as Pat Mcgrath, Kevyn Aucoin, Renny Vasquez and many others, Patterson works earnestly to achieve the best look for her clients. She says she aims for them to feel satisfied, complete, and powerful with their makeup. "Makeup doesn't define a woman's beauty, however, it does make a great accessory to make a woman feel as if she is unstoppable and empowered while looking fabulous at the same time," she explained to Flair.
She added, "My signature look is enhancing the beauty of my clients with natural, glowing and wearable make-up. I am in love with proper skin prepping, and a skin-like finish that will take them through the day with more confidence and be the centre of attention which they deserve."
With an international and local clientele, the skilful artist has proven to the world that she can work absolute wonders with her makeup brushes, mascara, concealer, and other tools. International faces such as Sean Kingston, Lil Yachty and Cardi B, can attest to her magic. And without a doubt, Beenie Man, Tosh Alexander and Kaci Fennel can testify to her wonders.
MAKE-UP RULE
There is nothing greater than a clean make-up look. Second to this is sanitation, a rule Patterson abides by. "I always consider the health factors for my clients by using only clean brushes on each new face, keeping my hands clean, spraying my products with alcohol and always clean my station before and after each person I work on," she told Flair.
She starts by cleaning the face, followed by a toner such a Witch Hazel, serum and moisturiser of your choice before the makeup routine begins. She guarantees "your face will thank you later, after the beauty session."
According to Patterson, a woman should never be without a moisturiser, mascara and chap sticks. "It's very important to keep the skin moisturised at all times to slow the process of wrinkles as the skin matures. Therefore, start your morning routine with a moisturiser and have chap sticks on hand to fight against dry lips. If you have oily skin, you can combat it with oil blotting sheets. Also, you may need your eyes to pop a bit for a particular occasion. By adding a few coats of mascara to your lashes, you can achieve the intensity you desire," Patterson advised.
