White Sand and Glam with Latenia
Known for its white sandy beaches, relaxing ambience and picturesque ocean view, Westmoreland, Jamaica, is the epitome of tranquility and relaxation, which makes it the perfect getaway destination for tourists. On the most western end of the parish lies Negril, which has a utopian fusion of city life which carelessly merges with the romantic aura of liberty. Priceless gems are often hidden in plain sight, budding with unrequited talent and beaming personalities. This adequately describes local make-up artist Latenia Brissett, who decided to choose make-up as her outlet for creativity.
"I was always curious about make-up and started experimenting from the age of nine," said Brissett. She admitted that she was obsessed with skincare and always wanted to find ways to improve its appearance. "I would go into my older sister's make-up collection to see what I could use. I was always fascinated with make-up and what it could do," she explained.
In the pursuit of her passion, she worked hard to be able to afford courses at the renowned D'Marie Institute in Kingston. "I made this decision three and a half years ago and I am loving the results. I gained a sense of belonging and professionalism at D'Marie. The institution allowed me to build on the skills I had and taught me how to communicate better with my clients," said Brissett. Brissett is trained up to level three and is working on improving in order to be the best make-up artist in the parish. She is a certified aesthetician, who specialises in hair designs and the use of different media. "I am always practising and improving," she explained.
Her charming personality bubbles with positivity which provides a unique and personal customer experience. "I always provide my clients with a skin analysis consultation where I will introduce the most suitable products for their skin," said Brissett. Having clients who are happy with their results is her number-one priority.
"I do mostly destination brides," said Brissett, who admitted that being within the tourist area has allowed her to build a clientele around persons who come to Jamaica to get married. "I am able to do make-up for all shades, skin types, and all occasions," she said. Her style of make-up ranges from everyday make-up, tropical eccentric, to night-time glam.
