Miguel DaCosta adding a new edge to your feet
Footwear designer Miguel DaCosta lives by this three-rule mantra: quality, comfort and style to deliver an eccentric flavour to the fashion industry.
"I fell in love with the look of the shoes and was caught up in it, flipping through the pages and seeing the different styles," Dacosta recalls.
Then, he started sketching the pieces. The Marcus Garvey Technical High School graduate was intent on fine tuning his skills and ensured that he learnt about designing and making shoes, so he did a year-and-a-half fashion designing certification course at Garmex Heart Academy. This is something that he believes impacted his work today.
It taught him how to "delve deeper and learn more about designing, from taking your idea from a sketch, to pattern making, to the actual finished product itself".
Living His Dream
He is now living his dream as an entrepreneur and taking his time to build his clientele who have even become repeat customers. He now makes customised sandals, oxfords, boots, and derbies from leather, leatherette and store-bought fabrics to give added structure to his designs from his work base in Eltham Park, St Catherine. He has already found himself on the local runway as he debuted his recent line at Style Week in May of 2018 in collaboration with DaCosta debuted his latest footwear creations at the Saint International-produced Style Week as a collaborative effort with womenswear and menswear designer Oshane Hinds' Horn Edge line. But this is nothing new to him as he did the same last year and collaborated with other designers which included Mission Catwalk reality TV winner Gregory Williams.
Here are just a few of his designs.
