"One of the most rewarding aspects of being in business is being able to leave the world a little better than you found it" explains Safyie Reid, Montegonian and owner of Jamaican lipstick brand, Gaelle Cosmetics.

Gaelle's commitment to women has actually been expertly woven into the brand through their unique approach to the names of shades. The Classic line which includes 38 shades of liquid matte lipsticks are coined after women that have personally impacted the brand while the Badass Collection, 12 shades of "badniss-in-a-lipstick" seeks to boast the rich and diverse culture that's truly representative of Jamaican women..

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Gaelle has partnered with local PR, marketing specialist and cancer survivor, Tara Playfair to help make a significant impact to the movement. Through Playfair's initiative (Tara's Fund), women who are otherwise unable to afford a mammogram are able to access this service for free at the Jamaica Cancer Society. "Early detection is key and increases one's chances at survival" - Tara Playfair.

"We initially started our campaign focusing on our pink shades of lipsticks, donating $100 from the sale of shades Jeanette, Noemi, June, Angie, and JRose. The support so far has been good. Within a few days, we were able to donate two free mammograms but we're aiming higher as the month comes to an end so now the offer has been extended across all 50 shades.

"If we can save just one mother, sister, friend, or co-worker from this dreaded disease, then our job would be done," Reid explained.

You can find Gaelle Cosmetics at the make-up counter of numerous pharmacies, beauty supply stores and recently beauty salons across the island. Simply ask for them by name.
