Fighting cancer requires a warrior's strength. The White Orchid Spa at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston wants to take these fighters off the battlefield and into a zone of pampering and rejuvenation, as they rest up for the big, bad 'C' monster.

Patients can now indulge in cancer care massages through the caring hands of certified beauty therapist Vonee Guy who prides herself on helping persons in their fight with the disease.

Trained at the HEART Trust/NTA, this three-year veteran specialises in scrubs, massages, nailcare, and body wraps, just to name a few.

"I decided I wanted to do something a little different," explained Guy, who was trained by international massage therapist Christine Clinton.

She said that the type of massage she gives to a patient depends on their need.

For those who have done surgery or who are undergoing treatment, the spa's 'Tranquil Touch' is for them.

The 'Restorative Touch' is ideal for clients who have burns associated with radiation treatment and surgery.

Guy said that her passion for massage and providing care for cancer fighters is both professional and personal.

"I love massaging and I have an aunt who is currently going through ovarian cancer. I saw the opportunity to help people. When I do massages, my main focus is to help the client feel better and rejuvenated. With being the only certified cancer massage therapist within the Orchid Spa I get to help those who are most vulnerable," she said.

Guy utilises coconut oil in her sessions, noting that it is the safest form of natural oil recommended for cancer patients.

The White Orchid Spa uses skincare line Lindi Skin which is designed specifically for the unique needs of people with the most compromised skin.

The soothing balm within the care products are made with turmeric extract which acts as an antiseptic and contains vitamins which helps in the repair of the immune systems of cancer patients.

"The product itself is easily absorbable even for the driest skin. It restores the moisture to the skin and helps with immunity," explained Guy.

When dealing with cancer patients the strokes are really light. Guy explained that it is similar to a Swedish massage but lighter.

"No manipulation is done and no harsh vibration is done. It is basically making the client feel comfortable while allowing the products to work," she said.

White Orchid Spa opens daily from 7:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m. For more information call 876-926-3690
