Jasiri means bold and courageous, and Rashana King perceives it aptly describes her business, Jasiri Designs.

King has always been fond of the arts. In fact, as a child she aspired to blossom into one of Jamaica's finest craftswomen or jewellers. Sadly, each time she mentioned her vision, she was told she would fail miserably and should pursue something safer. But now she is successfully living out her dream.

"I listened to the adults around me when they said the arts is not profitable because I saw them as my mentors. So, I pursued accounting instead because that's what they said would have been better. I love accounting; however, I was not feeling a passion for it and I had to do something for myself," King explained to Flair.

It's not her first attempt at jewellery making; however, this investment is now thriving. And although she is still practising within her profession, she is enjoying the perks of both worlds, using each to provide support for the other.

CHROMATIC COLLECTION

The first of her family to chase after entrepreneurial ventures, King launched her introductory collection, Chromatic, late last year. The eclectic assortment comprises six unique designs: Royal Flush, Ruby White, Crescent, The Hollow, Amber, and Scarlet. Each eye-catching pair adds spice to your fashion flavour and, dressed up or down, these stunning ornaments are perfect for any occasion.

"They have an intricate and luxurious appeal. That's because of the material that I use. A lot of persons do not fancy working with polymer clay, but I love it because it allows me to be creative. It's a long process to make a pair of earrings, but I love it. And when I see the end product and the smiles on my clients' faces, I'm completely satisfied," she said.

The 25-year-old burgeoning designer and The University of the West Indies graduate strongly believes in manipulating trends. "My goal is to provide vibrant and one-of-a-kind pieces. I want persons to be bold and confident when wearing my products. Even if a woman cannot picture herself in them, the design should be impressive and classy enough to etch itself in her mind," the growing entrepreneur said.

HOPES OF EXPANSION

Already with a small international market, the go-getter intends to expand her reach globally, as well as grow the Jasiri Designs brand to include necklaces and bracelets for both males and females. King shares her time between Jasiri Designs and her nine-to-five. She aims to continue both, and endeavours to aggressively work towards making her enterprise a well-known entity in the future. She operates out of a virtual store and offers delivery services around Kingston.
