When you think popular YouTubers the name RushCam, Quite Perry and Dutty Berry come to mind. But, let’s be honest, we all know the struggle of managing our own social media presence – imagine being one of them! It’s no secret that these digital starts usually have a team that manages their presence as well as their bookings for appearances. These are the persons that we generally hear nothing of, the persons behind the scenes that hold everything together. One of these persons is Corve DaCosta. While you may know him from Twitter and his various ventures, you would be surprised that he has not only managed the online presence of political figures but also brands that we all know and love, and as of late is managing Dutty Berry. We sat down with Corve to pick his brain and to get to know more about the man behind the brands.

1. He Got Into the Digital Marketing Industry Because of Barack Obama

DaCosta’s journey began with him being inspired by Barack Obama’s 2008 ‘Yes We Can’ campaign. He shared that as a marketing communications student at the time, he was not only impressed with Obama’s dominance of the social media space but also keen on researching the impact of the campaign strategy which propelled him to win the election. He later created the Jamaica Blog Awards in 2010 that sought to award excellence in local blogging and Jamaican bloggers in the diaspora.

2. His Mantra is life is ‘Do it Well’.

With the mantra ‘Do it Well’ there is no doubt that Corve is inspired by excellence and hopes to inspire others, especially young professionals.

“I aspire to be the best communications specialist I can be. That takes daily preparation and detailed analytical work to level up my skills to not only be in demand but to be current for these times. The communications landscape is increasingly dynamic, always changing, and I must evolve with the times to ensure my clients are experiencing the goals they seek. I am driven by clients who listen and are open to new possibilities. In addition, I love to research what international communications agencies are executing,” he shared.

3. He introduced Digital Media Week to Jamaica

Following the success of the Jamaica Blog awards in 2010, he sought to be even more innovative by spearheading the charge to celebrate digital media in Jamaica.

“I have been active in local celebrations for Social Media Day, which led me to create Digital Media Week, creating a space for local brands and companies to share best practices in digital and social media strategies. From all these events and several opportunities working with personality brands and companies, I have honed my skills as a communications strategist and public relations manager,” DaCosta shared with pride.

4. He Firmly Believes in The Power of Youth and Humility.

While a relatively young person himself, DaCosta believes that young professionals hold great power; however, they are yet to access it.

Not because you’re young means that you are the best. Use your experiences to learn from those around you and always read websites and watch videos, especially on YouTube in your specialised area. The Internet is changing industries daily and being aware of international trends and issues will allow you to stand out. Be trained in more than one area. The top 10 in-demand jobs are constantly changing. Being certified will ensure you are marketable and competitive.

5. He’s Into Personal Upkeep

Working out, getting enough sleep and drinking loads of water are all a part of his day, and he believes it should be a part of everyone’s day.

“We need to take care of ourselves. It is a good thing when you put together an outfit and get ready and you look good but it is even better when you are physically and mentally well. We need to remember that confidence in self is sexy, remaining humble and putting in the work to maintain your body is also sexy. We have one life and one body and we need to take care of the body that we are given,” he shared while flexing.
