All about portion at GymsKitchen
When it comes to food, Jamaicans love it 'nuff'. Portion was not a popular phrase as it is today. But still, not many eateries pay keen attention to serving size, but GymsKitchen is about to change that. Located literally next to a gym on Dunrobin Avenue, co-owner of the establishment Kenesha Miller told Food that she opened a little over a year ago. Seeing a gap that needed to be filled, she told Food, "In Jamaica, persons just eat whatever they feel like, with no limit on the amount of calories they consume. So it is quite natural for persons to go into a restaurant and order three boiled dumplings, two fingers of banana and a slice of potato along with their protein."
She continued, "At GymsKitchen, we take the hassle out of what to eat with the two categories of food post-workout or an anytime meal. In other words, you have to earn your calories," said Miller with a smile.
The post-workout dish is to be eaten after the most active part of your day as it contains the most carbohydrates. While the anytime dish replaces carbohydrates with good fats such as pear, nuts and seeds.
Reminders
And just in case you were not aware of the portions and felt like you should get more, the sign is prominently displayed at the front of the building as the perfect reminder.
Not one to count calories? GymsKitchen makes it easy and with their delicious and wide array at dishes they are sure you wont' mind.
The spinach stuffed chicken breast served with sweet potatoes and vegetables was nothing short of scrumptious, and surprisingly filling. Served with a blended fruit punch, it was the complement to a perfectly balanced meal, perfect for after a workout.
