Flaming Finish to PAN 2016
PAN 2016 promised to deliver an evening like no other and that it was last Sunday evening as thousands came out to engage in some excitement, entertainment and mouth-watering pan chicken. Twenty-eight competitors from across the island 'jerked up' their best to wow the judges with their tasty pan chicken.
The grand finals of the 11th staging of CB Pan championships took over Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, with the smell of authentic Jamaican pan chicken, good music and enough vibes to carry patrons throughout the week.
As the evening heated up, the pans were open and the venue was jam-packed with patrons eager to get a taste of the best-tasting pan chicken in the island. With more than $1 million in cash and prizes and the 2016 PAN championship title up for grabs, the chefs were jerking up a storm to see who would this year reign supreme.
The energetic Dufton 'Duffy' Shepherd and Khadine 'Miss Kitty' Hylton kept the audience pumped and entertained, giving patrons a chance to win gift baskets and bags filled with goodies.
While indulging in as much chicken as possible, patrons were treated to performances from several artistes, including Kevin Downswell, Sanchez, Tarrus Riley and Beenie Man.
Soon it was time to award the best of the best, and Terry-Ann Davidson from St Ann earned herself the 2016 Championship title and third place in the Miracle Tallawah Sauce competition. "I feel awesome. Nothing is possible without God, and people doubted me but I decided I was going to work hard in hopes that I would win. My friend, Debra Francis, was a strong motivator and I'm just speechless," she told Food.
In the Miracle Tallawah Sauce competition, St Ann's Cassius Gayle took first place and Audrea Charlton of St Catherine claimed the second place spot.
Coming in second in the PAN championship was Hanover parish champion, Vandyke Bernard and third place was won by Gayle.
