The tasty novelty of stewed food offerings abound at the 16th staging of the Lauriston 4-H Club Festival on November 5.

“It is clear that Stew is King here today. We realise that patrons are pleased, but surprised to witness the flexibility of stew,”a patron, Anita Gayle, remarked.

Among the dishes were stewed jackfruit, stewed pineapple, stewed egg, stewed June plum, stewed fish, stewed duck and stewed rabbit.

Held on the grounds of Brooklyn Park, Thompson Pen, the event saw hundreds of patrons in attendance.

Among the visitors was Member of Parliament for St Catherine Eastern Denise Daley. “I truly endorse this festival, as it brings great interactions for residents and visitors alike,” Daley said. “There are 16 community groups within the constituency and the Lauriston Club continues to do very well.”

Chief organiser Shian Christian said the festival has grown, which is an encouraging sign.”When we (4-H Club) started this initiative, we didn’t know that 16 years after it would’ve grown so much, but we are thankful for the support,” Christian said. “The show has helped the members to showcase their various skills, and it also helping to bring families together and provide funding for our various projects.”

The function was the showcase for various culinary displays and competition. It was endorsed as a welcome return after a two-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
