Some say music is the universal language of love, but it’s hard to ignore how well food measures up in that regard; and if there’s one day that a good meal can make people fall head over heels in love, then it is Valentine’s Day. With an endearing ambiance, Steak House on the Verandah, located at Devon House, is an ideal location for couples’ dining experiences.

Speaking with Food, Restaurant Manager Carl Campbell says that with the reopening of the restaurant following its closure due to COVID-19, this Valentine’s Day is all about giving customers a deal that they have come to know and enjoy.

“Across the years, we have had a major project with Valentine’s Day, and people love it. We know we have to continue that enthusiasm to make people feel excited and keep them engaged. This year, we have extended it to ‘two-for-$15,000’, and we have included more entrées. We have also partnered with the best wine distributors in the country to give everybody the best package on the night, so that they can experience their favourite wines and menu items at the best price,” he said.

Campbell is inviting lovers and friends to join them on February 14 for an evening that, he says, won’t disappoint. But what exactly are you getting for your buck?

Chef and owner Christian Sweeney explained, “It is a three-course menu, and it is a top-notch experience. You have a choice of a soup and a salad, a choice of four main courses, which are; a beautiful fish dish; an awesome chicken pasta; a lovely, well-done steak; and a great vegan option. There is also a dessert to be shared between the couple, and we are calling that one ‘The Red Velvet Heart of Love’, which is a chocolate-covered red velvet cake. There will also be a welcome drink, and we are providing the perfect ambiance for a wonderful evening,” he shared.

A MEAL FOR EVERYONE

If you’re a carnivore, then Steak House on the Verandah is for you. Think tender, juicy, and flavourful, not overly salted or seasoned meat that is cooked to perfection. Paired with creamy mashed potatoes on a bed of crunchy veggies with a coffee demi-glace; your taste buds will thank you. Providing tasty options for pescatarians and vegans, they plan to prepare a delectable pan-seared snapper in a tomato butter sauce that has a perfectly crunchy exterior and warm, white flaky interior. Vegans can enjoy a tri-colour ratatouille served with sautéed vegetables that are rich and flavourful with incredible freshness.

For appetizers, the menu offers a choice between cream of gungo peas soup topped with caramelised pig’s tail, or mixed green salad with a creamy cranberry and raspberry dressing.

Having added a few new features, not only are the plans to provide great food, but a vibe to match.

“We started with a whole new rebranding when it comes to the ambiance. We have completely renovated the bar; we have this nice picture area that we have added, we have enhanced our training and taken on new staff. The garnishes have improved. The product has improved,” said Campbell. “We have not added a lot of new items, but we have taken the time to improve our product delivery and service. As it relates to beverage delivery, we have added additional wines, and customers so far love it. So, it is a new outlook for the Steakhouse.” Campbell

Chef Sweeny added, “We have spent a significant amount in upgrading the facility. We have included creature comforts for our customers as well, such as roll-down awnings, a new stereo system, and a brand new bar. We have new lighting, and we think it is a nice vibe for Valentine’s Day to help you feel old-time Jamaican romance. That’s the theme I am going for.”
