PALS doing good work in community, says West Kingston resident

The work of PALS Jamaica (Peace and Love in Society) is being hailed by 38-year-old western Kingston resident Alaphia Chambers, who says the initiative must be given all the support it needs.

"PALS gave us a unity walk, and from then, people are cooperating more. People can walk on any street, which they could not have done before. PALS is really something that any individual can be a part of if they want to build communities," said Chambers, who is a member of the West Kingston Planning Committee.

The resident said she has only been integrally involved with the work of the widely respected initiative since June, but already, she sees how critical PALS is to fostering peace.

"PALS is doing very well in the schools, especially with the Halibethian Early Childhood Centre, but we need more people. Tivoli is a ghetto community and we have resource shortage, so it is clear that we need all the support."

Added Chambers: "We are glad that The Gleaner is supporting PALS. They are doing good work in the community and we don't want them to leave."
