Superintendent of Police Beau Rigabie, the commanding officer for the Westmoreland police division, says the police will leave no stones unturned in their efforts to recapture the eight prisoners who escaped from the lock-up at the Savanna-la-Mar Police Station in the parish early Friday morning.

"Eight members of our cell population broke out of a cell and are on the run. I just want to let the public know that we are not going to spare any efforts to find these persons," said Rigabie. "We are not going to stop until we find them ... . I want to appeal to the public not to harbour these persons because persons caught harbouring any of these men will be arrested and charged," he warned.

Four of the men are facing murder charges, three are charged with offences relating to illegal firearms, and one with rape and robbery.

The men are 21-year-old Romaine Esson, otherwise called 'Skenko' of Dalling Street, Westmoreland, who is charged with murder; 23-year-old Odane Brown, also known as 'Fee Fee', of West End, Negril in Westmoreland, who is charged with shooting and robbery; 26-year-old Alton Maxwell of Naggo Head, St Catherine, who is charged with murder, illegal possession of firearm and escaping police custody; and 21-year-old Ricardo Kerr, otherwise called 'Jawbone', of Waterworks, Westmoreland, who is charged with robbery with aggravation and shooting with intent.

The other escapees are 26-year-old Junior James, otherwise called 'Bryan' of Burnt Savannah District, Westmoreland, who is charged with murder; Steve Vassell, also known as 'Strength' of Shortwood Road, Kingston 8, who is charged with murder; and 18-year-old Bushay Grayson, otherwise called 'Coolie Man', of Little London, Westmoreland, who is charged with robbery.

The men escaped from the cell they shared shortly after 1 a.m. on Friday. They reportedly dug a hole through the wall of their cell and made good their escape.

Rigabie said a thorough investigation will be done to ascertain how the men broke free from their cell. He is urging the escapees to turn themselves in.
