Nat'l PTA condemns killing of Maldon High student

The National Parent-Teacher Association of Jamaica (NPTAJ) has indicated that they will be hosting an urgent parent-teacher association meeting following a gruesome murder which took place close to the Maldon High School in St James on Tuesday.

According to the education ministry, 15-year-old Romaro Salmon was stabbed off the school's compound during an altercation with three boys.

In a release yesterday, the NPTAJ also condemned what they describe as a violent attack perpetrated by a group of indiscipline and misguided parents.

"This has led to significant damage to school property, damage to other properties on the school premises at the time, and cancellation of the City and Guilds examination at the school," the release said.

"This kind of indiscipline cannot be tolerated at any level whatever the reasons are. The NPTAJ is also calling on the ministry to put in place the necessary measures which will prevent this kind of indisciplined behaviour. We urge the police to find the perpetrators and let the chips fall where they may," it continued.

Residents from the boy's community descended on the school in protest on Wednesday.

The three boys are now in police custody.
