Stony Hill, Portland:

A Portland woman is dead following an alleged dispute on Tuesday between two men at Ransa, Stony Hill, in Portland.

The woman has been identified as Angella Jackson, unemployed, who is believed to be in her mid-50s.

According to a police report, at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jackson's grandson and another man were involved in a dispute when spear guns (fish guns) were drawn and she intervened on his behalf.

During the quarrel, threats, and shoving, Jackson was reportedly shot in the eye with the spear gun being used by the other man. She fell to the ground crying out in pain as blood spewed from her injured left eye.

Jackson was rushed to the Port Antonio Hospital, but reportedly died some hours later while being transferred to Kingston.

The police said it was still unclear how the alleged attacker was injured, but that he had been admitted to hospital under police guard.

Yesterday, dozens of family members converged at the Port Antonio Police Station. They later broke down in tears after learning of Jackson's death by way of a telephone call.

The Portland police are investigating.
