Judge tells prosecution to review case against cosmetologist

The prosecution is to review the case against 22-year-old cosmetologist Sashanna Maxwell of Olympic Gardens, Kingston 11, who is charged in connection with the larceny of a motor car belonging to Superintendent of Police Winston Hunt.

In making bail application for Maxwell yesterday, attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie argued that she should not have been charged with the offence.

It was disclosed in court that Maxwell was not a passenger in the stolen car, but was travelling in another motor car being driven by co-accused, Jerome Scott. Both cars were reportedly part of a convoy on the day of the incident.

Resident Magistrate Grace Henry-Mckenzie has given the prosecution until October 2 to review the file concerning Maxwell's situation.

The third accused, Joel Bailey, who was driving the stolen motor car on August 16 when it was intercepted, pleaded guilty to larceny of the motor car. He has been remanded until October 2 for sentencing in Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Scott, who is being represented by attorney-at-law Christopher Townsend, and Maxwell, were each granted $100,000 bail with sureties.

Scott and Maxwell are to return to court on October 2.

The court was told that the prosecution is also pursuing charges in connection with the anti-gang legislation against the accused persons as it is alleged that the stolen car was rented to a notorious wanted man.
