A male teacher from Tacky High in Gayle, St Mary, was offered $150,000 bail at the Resident Magistrate's Court in Port Maria yesterday after being accused of having sex with one of the school's grade nine students.

On Wednesday, December 9, the school's principal allegedly discovered Sheldon Murphy, who has been charged with having sex with a child under the age of 14 years old, alone with the student inside a cottage on the school compound.

Subsequently, the police were called, and two days later, Murphy, 23, was charged by an officer from the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse.

According to his bail conditions, Murphy must keep out of St Mary, have no contact with the unnamed child, report regularly to the Constant Spring Police Station in St Andrew, and return to court on January 23 next year.
