Mona primary school principal confident in GSAT students despite challenges

Principal of the Mona Primary School Fabian Mahabeer has expressed confidence that his 180 Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) students will deliver positive results in their examinations despite minor challenges.

"Well, some of the challenges that we have, just the resources for the students, really, because you'll have students not having the equipment to ready themselves for learning like the textbooks. In most cases, it's based on priority because you would see the students with other things that they don't need," stated Mahabeer.

"They have the most exquisite phones, yet they don't have the textbook. I think it's basically priority, but that's not it in large part, really. Most of them have their material," he stressed.

Students were nervous

Mahabeer lamented that some of the students were a bit nervous but said that he had reassured them that they had the potential to achieve good results.

"Naturally, you'll have some amount of apprehension in a few of them, overcome with anxiety, I guess, but for the most part, they have been reassured and they have been doing the work. They have been in mock exams, so we would have known," Mahabeer told The Gleaner.

He believes that his boys and girls have been adequately prepared to properly handle the various subject areas.

"We would have been gauging the performance of the students, so we know where we would have needed remedial assistance for some of them. Overall, they should do fairly well, and they are comfortable because they have gone through the rigour of mock exams, so they should do well."
