Slain Constable Crystal Thomas honoured for gallantry

Constable Crystal Thomas, who was shot and killed by gunmen attempting to rob passengers on a public passenger bus in July last year, on Spanish Town Road in Kingston, was among a number of uniformed-service personnel honoured yesterday, on Labour Day.

Thomas, who challenged the gunmen before they turned their weapons on her, was recognised with a posthumous award for her bravery.

On Tuesday, July 14, 2015, Thomas left work at the Denham Town Police Station, went aboard a Coaster bus, where she spotted a robbery attempt and proceeded to challenge the robbers. She was murdered in the process.

More than 400 uniformed officials, including the police and soldiers, were acknowledged with the National Honours and Awards, for their distinguished periods of service. The categories that these individuals were recognised in included Honour for Meritorious Service, Honour For Long Service, Honour For Good Conduct and for Gallantry.
