Young doctor remembered for dedication and humility

MANDEVILLE, Manchester:
The schedules bearing Dr Megan Auden's 'on-call' duties have now been erased and patients and colleagues alike continue to question why the promising medical practitioner had to leave this earth.
Auden, 25, died Saturday afternoon when the motor vehicle she was driving collided with two others along the intersection of Greenvale and West roads in Manchester.
The police say the three-vehicle collision, which occurred approximately 3:45 p.m., resulted after the wet road surface caused Auden's motor vehicle to skid into the path of traffic travelling in the opposite direction.
Auden was pronounced dead at hospital while 10 other persons sustained minor injuries.
The doctor, who had just completed five years of tertiary studies and was interning at Mandeville Regional Hospital, was hailed as approachable and committed to her job.
"She was hard-working and dedicated ... . Whenever she was called, she never hesitated, and she looked out for her patients," nurse Petal Richards-Chambers told The Gleaner.
"No matter how tired she was, you could always rely on her ... . Thursday was the last time I saw her on call, and to know that this happened, it is beyond sad ... . She was really the best of the lot. She was very approachable, and any nurse you ask would tell you the same thing ... . She stood out above the rest."
There was also an outpouring of love on social media for the young woman for whom almost everyone she knew had admiration.
"People die every day, and it's a part of life's cycle, but when the loss is from a sisterhood you hold near and dear to your heart, it hits deep ... . Sad isn't word enough to describe how I feel about the loss of our dear Megan ... . May we find comfort in the memories shared and be forever grateful for this precious life ... ," said her schoolmate, fellow Hamptonian, Lisa Henry on Facebook.
Another former classmate said: "Such a QUIET WARMHEARTED INDIVIDUAL, always willing to help, never aggressive, always smiling and very very polite ... . The kind of person the world needed to be a better place ... . I'm at a loss for words but may the grace of God comfort us all ... #Hamptonianlife cut too short."
Auden sought to carry on the legacy of the family of doctors, following in the footsteps of her late grandfather, Dr Evan Auden, and her father, Dr Paul Auden.
