Soldiers on patrol yesterday in Paradise Row, Montego Bay, St James.

Up to late yesterday, the police in St James had yet to indicate whether they had charged any of the approximately 40 people detained in a mid-morning operation in the crime-ravaged parish.

The people were taken into custody by the police during a series of coordinated operations in and around downtown Montego Bay.

Deputy Commissioner of Police George Quallo, who has responsibility for territorial operations, told The Gleaner that the detainees were still being processed by investigators shortly before press time.

The operations covered parts of downtown Montego Bay and adjoining communities such as Mount Salem.
