The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People’s National Party (PNP) have agreed to participate in two local government debates to be organised by the Jamaica Debates Commission ahead of the impending local government election.

The Commission says debates will be televised and streamed on the Internet.

The debates will be held between Nomination Day and Election Day.

The Commission says the parties agreed that the two debates will each involve three-member teams comprising either members of the Houses of Parliament or local government candidates.

Each debate will be for 90 minutes and will be moderated and have questions posed by a panel of journalists.

This is the second time the Debates Commission is staging Local Government debates.

Last week, JLP General Secretary Dr Horace Chang said the Prime Minister and the Local Government Minister were in consultation about an election day.
