Cops still probing murder of doctor

Four days after being found shot dead in his car at his St Andrew home, the police are still piecing together clues in the murder of well-known medical doctor, Garth Officer.

Head of the Corporate Communications Unit, Sup-erintendent Stephanie Lindsay, said the police were confident of a breakthrough into the doctor's murder.

She said investigators have not yet uncovered a motive for his killing, but were working assiduously to get to the bottom of it.

"We have not had any updates on the doctor's killing. But the police are still on the job trying to get a handle on clues that could provide us with information on who may have committed the act and why," Lindsay said.

Reports are that on Friday, the police responded to calls that explosions were heard in the Charlton Avenue area. Upon investigation, the 72-year-old doctor was found slumped over the passenger seat of his car and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Myrton Smith, president of Medical Association of Jamaica, has since urged his colleague doctors to take extra precautions in regards to personal safety.
