The Jamaica Cancer Society's Relay For Life has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 1, 2017, at the Police Officers' Club, Hope Road, St Andrew.

The 15th staging of the fundraising event, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, June 17, was postponed as a result of inclement weather.

With a target of $15 million from this staging of the event, fundraising and public relations officer at the Jamaica Cancer Society Shullian Brown said that registration for the event is still open and will close tomorrow. "We're still inviting the public to come on board to support the event by forming teams. We're also still in need of sponsorship and encourage persons to make a donation to the Cancer Society."

The nightlong event will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday night and run through to Sunday, July 2, at 6 a.m.

The highlights of the event will include a luminaria ceremony, karaoke, and 'socarobics'. The Cancer Society is especially encouraging persons over the next two weeks to support the luminaria ceremony in honour of loved ones who have passed away from the disease by purchasing special luminaria bags from the society.

All proceeds from the event will be used by the Cancer Society to expand and strengthen its public-education and health-promotion programmes, establish screening clinics across the island, and provide support to vulnerable and newly diagnosed cancer patients.

Persons may contact the Jamaica Cancer Society at 927-4265 or 978-1918, or email jacancer@cwjamaica.com to register their team, purchase luminaria bags, or to pledge support.
