Councillors from both sides of the political divide in the St Ann Municipal Corporation have rejected the $20,000 being proposed by Chairman Michael Belnavis to stage town hall meetings across the parish.

At the June monthly meeting, Belnavis informed that councillors in each of the 16 divisions in St Ann would be given $20,000 towards mobilisation and refreshment.

But People's National Party Councillor Ian Bell of the Beecher Town division raised objection to the amount, saying that the sum has not changed over the last five years while costs to stage the event have increased.

The issue was highlighted at last Thursday's meeting of the corporation, where Bell again objected to a similar allocation. This time, he was supported by the other councillors, who claimed that the amount was inadequate. The chairman promised to review the amount.
