Over 10 illegal guns seized on the weekend

Between Friday and Sunday, members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) seized more than 10 illegal guns.
The latest find, a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver, along with five rounds of ammunition, occurred on Sunday in the Kingston 8 region.
Official reports are that about 11 a.m., a team from the Constant Spring Police Station was on patrol along Glen Drive when a man was spotted acting suspiciously.
He was accosted and searched, and the weapon containing ammunition found in his waistband. He was taken into custody. His identity is currently being withheld pending further investigations.
Another man is also in custody for a find in the Kingston, 10 region.
Reports from the Half-Way Tree police are that about 4:40 p.m. on Saturday, lawmen conducted a raid on South Road, during which a man's action drew their suspicion. He was accosted and searched, and a holstered Taurus 9mm pistol, containing sixteen 9mm rounds of ammunition, was found in his waistband.
The gun and ammo haul has resulted in congratulations from Commissioner of Police George Quallo, who is adamant that the JCF will continue to disarm criminals.
BIG CATCH ON FRIDAY
The first of the 10 gun finds occurred on Friday around 2:30 a.m., while the Falmouth, Trelawny, police carried out a search of a premises. A Taurus Millennium G2 pistol, a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol, along with nine 9mm rounds of ammunition were seized. No one was arrested.
Hours later, at approximately 8 a.m., residents of North Gully, Barnett Street in St James, summoned the police, who discovered an assault rifle following drain cleaning.
Around 11 a.m., the Constant Spring police were on mobile patrol when a Toyota Camry motor car was signalled to stop. The driver complied, the car was searched and a weapon found. The details of the weapon were not provided. The man was taken into custody.
About 5 p.m., lawmen in St Catherine conducted a targeted raid at premises in the Kensington district. A man who is alleged to have thrown an item over a fence upon seeing the police was accosted and searched. A nearby search was conducted and a Bersa 9mm pistol, with four 9mm rounds of ammunition, found.
Later that evening, the police accosted and searched a man on Gillette Street, also in St Catherine. He was found to be in possession of a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver and five 9mm rounds of ammunition.
Approximately 11 p.m., a group of men in Treadways, St Catherine, were reportedly playing dominoes, when they were approached by armed men and robbed. One man was shot. However, the speedy response of lawmen led from to a location in the parish where two men were accosted. One 9mm pistol, along with six rounds of ammunition, was seized.
On Saturday, at around 4 a.m. along Gordon Pennant Road in St Ann, a man entered a shop and pulled a firearm from his waistband. A struggle ensued between the man and the shopkeeper. The weapon fell and the man allegedly ran. The firearm was later retrieved and handed over to the St Ann's Bay police.
The 10th firearm was seized at about 6:50 a.m. in Black River, St Elizabeth, during a police operation. Premises were searched and an Uzi sub-machine gun with a magazine containing two 9mm rounds of ammunition seized. One man was taken into custody for the find.
