CIBC brings Christmas cheer to Victoria Jubilee Hospital
Employees donate cribs, washer and paint to maternity hospital!

When a mother at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital (VJH) was observed with her newborn on her bed, instead of in a bassinet beside the bed, the institution chose itself as the beneficiary for Christmas goodies from CIBC employees.
And yesterday, officials from the hospital expressed gratitude for the donation of gallons of paint, two bassinets, and an industrial washer - donated specifically for the washing of babies clothes.
"We are committed to working with communities, families, and institutions within the communities in which we operate. So when we were asked to think about a project, we chose the health sector because we know there is a lot of need there," said Cordella Medley-Gayle, the senior CIBC representative at VJH told The Gleaner yesterday.
Continuing, she said: "This is a project of our Adopt-a-Cause programme, and the bank's audit, operational risks, and compliance departments were involved. It was between children's hospital (Bustamante Hospital for Children) and VJH, but the choice was made when a new mom was seen with a baby on the bed at VJH because there were not enough bassinets."
Medley-Gayle told the gathering that she was proud to be involved with a VJH baby.
Donations welcome
When the hospital outlined its needs, they decided to grant a little of each request.
Chief Executive Officer of the Kingston Public Hospital and VJH Errol Greene said that the donations were welcome and would contribute significantly to the hospitals' efforts to reduce its laundry bill.
According to Greene, the bill for both institutions has come down from $4 million to $200,000 as the hospitals were doing much of their own laundry.
"The donation of the washer will reduce it even more, even though VJH is still a little high, but we are getting there," Greene told The Gleaner.
Senior Medical Officer Dr Orville Morgan expressed his gratitude and urged the CIBC employees to recommend the hospital to their friends, stating that it was the best in the region.
