Cops in ZOSO wearing body cameras

Body cameras are being worn by members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force in the zones of special operations in Mount Salem, St James, and Denham Town, west Kingston, according to Assistant Superintendent of Police Dahlia Garrick.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) reported in March of this year that body cameras were not being deployed during planned police operations despite an increase in the number of fatal shootings by the police.
Garrick, who heads the Corporate Communications Unit of the JCF, disclosed that footage from the cameras is downloaded and stored at the Information Communications Technology Division of the JCF and is available whenever needed.
"If something happens that needs special attention, whether to verify or clarify, then it will be used," Garrick told The Gleaner.
Body cameras are currently being used in the St Andrew South Division (Hunts Bay), St Andrew Central (Half-Way Tree), Kingston East (Rockfort), and Kingston Central (Downtown).
"There will be some other areas that will start using body cams soon. These are in the Area One zone, which comprises Trelawny, St James, Hanover, and Westmoreland," Garrick revealed.
