Gilbert Memories - 30 years later | It was scary but exciting

"My experience with Hurricane Gilbert was super. I was 15 going on 16 years old and I remember clearly," said Lisa Kelly who was living in Paisley, Clarendon at the time.

"I watched from my window. I saw zinc blowing in the air from my neighbours' roof. The rain water was splashing my face even though the window was closed. It was the old time glass louvre blades," added Kelly.

She told The Gleaner that at the time she had goats, "Lisa, Daisy, Donovan and Dan" and I had to put them up in the kitchen. It was an outside zinc kitchen. They were safe.

"After the rain my sister Christine, my mom Kloma, my cousins Alcion and Kareen walked to the Rio Minho at the May Pen Bridge and we saw cows, goats, pigs and dogs floating in the water probably coming from in the country."

According to Kelly, though scary Gilbert was exciting to watch.

"The trees were blown down. We were happy even though there wasn't any light. We ate tin food until we felt funny. The place looked different," declared Kelly.
