'Chucky' Brown trial to begin on Tuesday

The trial for police constable Collis 'Chucky' Brown has yet again experienced a delay as proceedings surrounding an application filed by the prosecution on Tuesday continued into yesterday afternoon at the Supreme Court in downtown Kingston.

The seven-member jury comprising four males and three females, which was empaneled on Tuesday, was told to return to court yesterday but was further instructed to return next Tuesday when the trial is expected to commence.

Brown, who has been in custody since 2014, is indicted on charges stemming from separate incidents in 2009 and 2012 in which Damoy Dawkins, Dwayne Douglas, and Andrew Fearon were shot and killed.

He is believed to have been part of a syndicate of police officers who allegedly carried out extrajudicial killings.

The trial, which was expected to begin on Monday, was stalled due to an unsuccessful application by Brown's attorney, Norman Godfrey, to have the charges against his client separated.
