Scotiabank to shutter its oldest branch in Jamaica

Scotiabank yesterday confirmed that it is to close its branch on King Street in downtown Kingston and consolidate its operations with the nearby Scotiabank Centre.

According to the bank, the 'Scotia Centre' branch will be redesigned and reorganised to meet the needs of the combined customer base.

The bank said it will be making significant investments to redesign the Scotia Centre branch, which will underscore its commitment to downtown Kingston and to Jamaica.

"During the transition period, consolidated banking operations will be conducted at the King Street branch location until renovations at Scotiabank Centre are completed in the third quarter of our 2019 fiscal year.

"When the renovations are complete, Scotia Centre will be one of the most cutting-edge banks in the Caribbean, redesigned around a better customer experience," the bank said.

It added that it is now focused on ensuring its customers are informed of these changes and supporting its employees through this transition, while staying true to its principles of treating employees fairly, equitably and with respect.

"It is our intention to redeploy staff across the Scotiabank network," said the bank in a hint that there will be no job losses from the closure of what is it oldest branch in Jamaica.

Scotiabank maintains a network of 32 branches, 253 ATMs, online and mobile banking, and a 24-hour Customer Contact Centre in Jamaica.
