Green promises action on Youth Parliament recommendations

State Minister with responsibility for youth Floyd Green has asserted that the Government will be paying keen attention to the recommendations emanating from today's sitting of the National Youth Parliament of Jamaica.

Green who made the remark at the official opening of the youth parliament at Gordon House in Kingston said the recommendations would then be circulated to the relevant ministries and the new Youth Advisory Council of Jamaica will be tasked to follow up on the implementation.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Pearnel Charles, has charged the youth parliamentarians to upgrade the current standard of representation in the country.

The National Youth Parliament was established in November 2003 as a non-partisan initiative aimed at providing youth from across Jamaica with a forum to express their views, network and debate issues of concern in the House of Representatives.

The youth parliament is hosted as part of the activities for national youth month in Jamaica.

At the November 2016 sitting, participants debated the issues of psychosocial care, youth unemployment and climate change.

This current sitting is focusing on national security, the reformation of the electoral system and ICT and it's potential for economic growth and job creation.

The National Youth Parliament is led by members of the youth advisory council.
