Elderly woman shot dead in bed

Seventy-five-year-old Ruthlyn Prendergast was killed on Sunday afternoon on Homestead Avenue in east Kingston.

According to the police, Prendergast, a retiree, was shot dead, while another woman was injured, by unknown assailants.

Residents reportedly heard explosions around 3:30 p.m. and summoned the police. When the lawmen arrived, the elderly woman was found with gunshot wounds, in her bed.

Prendergast was pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital, while the other woman was admitted in serious but stable condition.
