New Fortress bringing Christmas cheers to children

Verona Carter, the vice-president of public affairs at New Fortress Energy, says her company is seeking to ensure that as many children as possible in St James and other parishes get a chance to enjoy the spirit of Christmas this year.

She said that to accomplish its goal of securing the love and joy of Christmas for the children, New Fortress Energy will be handing out approximately 1,000 presents to children in the western parish. Carter was speaking at the St James Municipal Corporation Christmas tree-lighting ceremony and concert in Sam Sharpe Square on Sunday.

"This is just to kick off the distribution of gifts to our children here in Montego Bay," said Carter, who handed out some gifts at the event. "The remaining gifts will be presented through the mayor's Christmas treat in the five constituencies, which starts on Tuesday (today). We want to ensure that as many children as possible will feel the joy and spirit of the Christmas season."

The historic Sam Sharpe Square, which has had extensive renovation work done in recent times, was transformed into a sea of colours for the ceremony and concert, which attracted hundreds of residents from across St James. The elevated Christmas tree, with its exquisite decorations, was easily the centre of attention.

 

Spreading the love

 

Carter said that St James was not the only parish to benefit from the generosity of New Fortress Energy, as it had been spreading the love around.

"To help bring Christmas cheer, we have been hosting our Christmas treats across the island, from Old Harbour Bay, where our newly completed regasification world-class terminal is located, to the Jamalco refinery communities where our combined heat and power plant will be built by 2020," Carter pointed out.

"We are thrilled to be here and we look forward to forming even greater partnerships in Montego Bay, the city where New Fortress Energy's vision became reality and is now making our footprints around the Caribbean and the rest of the world," added Carter.
