Sinopharm Pan-Caribbean has established business units in medical equipment trading and healthcare in Jamaica and the Caribbean region, says General Manager Peter Zheng.

"Sinopharm is actively coordinating and cooperating with the Ministry of Health and the Chinese Embassy in Jamaica to carry out recruitment work for bilateral and multilateral seminars on an annual basis," he told The Gleaner.

The seminars are sponsored by the Government of China and organised by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the China Sinopharm International Corporation.

"Our aim is to become a medical company with unique characteristics befitting the Caribbean and Jamaicans alike. Sinopharm will keep working to make more contributions towards the improvement of the healthcare industry in Jamaica and surrounding Caribbean," stated Zheng.

Bilateral training programme

Last month, 23 Jamaican intensive care unit specialty nurses participated in a bilateral training programme in China.

According to Zheng, a 22-member team of officials and medical experts were also selected to participate in a series of multilateral medical and healthcare seminars in China.

In addition, Sinopharm has had several fruitful discussions with the health ministry for the provision of more Chinese vaccines to meet the needs of Jamaicans in the near future.

"Our projects focus on work in the medical and health-care arena such as tourism projects, healthcare for seniors, pharmaceutical logistics projects, medical institution projects, and medical engineering projects," Sinopharm's top executive said.

The company is also looking at opening up avenues for the use of traditional Chinese medical treatment in Jamaica.
